In 1998 has begun computerization of library work- process and started to form the electronic catalogue of Central scientific library of Liepāja.

The parts of the computerization of library work-process are:
Electronic catalogue -
All issues (newspapers, magazines) that are available in the library and branch libraries are fed into the electronic catalogue, a bibliographical description of an issue as well is made. At the same time electronically is organized processing or re-cataloguing of printed materials which were received before the beginning of computerization (printed materials received till 1998)
Central scientific library of Liepāja forms the Union catalogue of the city and the district. In the Union catalogue of Liepāja and Liepāja district, apart from Central scientific library of Liepāja and its branch-libraries, are gradually included facts about the library collection from district libraries.
In the Union catalogue are gradually included facts about the library collection of school № 8 (in Liepāja) too. In the Union catalogue could be found a stock collection from Liepāja museum too. The collection of the museum forms 1429 books, mainly about the history of Liepāja and Latvia that were given in 1949 to the museum from The Library of Old and Rare books,  that’s why it wasn’t available to the society.
In the electronic catalogue of Central scientific library of Liepāja are 60 172 titles, which include 142 513 books (at the 1st January 2007). The place where a book is located is found by copies of selected items.

Analytics of Liepāja - 
The data basis contains materials of regional studies, taken from analytical articles about Liepāja and its area. These articles are from the newspaper “Kurzemes vārds” in Latvian and Russian and the regional newspaper “Kursas laiks” (earlier from other newspapers, published in the city), as well as from other Latvian main newspapers since1998 (if there is something mentioned about Liepāja) Bibliographical information is also fed into the data basis from books and other information sources about the city of Liepāja and the district.
Since 2002 numerous descriptions from the newspaper “Kurzemes vārds” are linked to the web site of the newspaper where is found the full-text article. Since 2005 many descriptions from the newspaper “Kursas laiks” are also linked to the web site of full-text articles. It allows to read the needed article in computer or to print it out instead of copying it. Articles that ate linked to the web site are marked with a globe in the catalogue.
